Project 2 - Pinterest Boards

1. Punks (Music Culture)

When searching for photographs to add to my Pinterest board, I tried to select quite a diverse range of images. Some images are conventional and photography composition rules are apparent, in others, they look like they have simply been taken by somebody with a smartphone camera. Some are photographs from the 80's, and some are modern day. Noticeably, the meaning behind these photos differ greatly from each other. Some are taken with the intent to present them as hardcore, the way punks are typically perceived, and some are taken with the intent to represent them as something else. For example, there is a photograph of a punk smiling and interacting with a young child, which portrays them as quite warm and caring people.

There is a variance of intention, composition, mood and era between the images because I am not sure how I would choose to photograph punks yet, so I'm keeping my ideas open.

2. Skateboarders

As I was creating a Pinterest board about skateboarding culture, the main way which I sought diversity between images was in terms of the camera angles. I have never photographed anything like skateboarding before, so I don't have a very comprehensive knowledge on how to create this type of sports photography, thus me trying to research interesting camera angles for the topic in particular.

Here, there is a mix of photography that has been done professionally to create an affect or particular mood, and photography that has been done with a smartphone camera by a friend. The key difference I have found between the two is based on the intentions of the image. An amateur photograph taken by a friend often has the intention of making their friend look good, a professional photograph taken by a photographer has the intention of creating a mood or sending a message through use of composition.
